Raycasting demo - May 2004
MA618 - New Media Production I
This project was built to demostrate Lingo control from within Macromedia Director, of a 3D character constructed in Maya. It used new features that allowed access to the "bones" of the 3D model via code. This model also walks on a slope via a method called "raycasting" - every frame a ray is sent down from the center of the model, and a calculation is made as to the distance to the object beneath the model. The height of the model above the "ground" is then adjusted accordingly. This is most evident when you walk off the edge of the square, turn, and walk back onto the square at a different point. The model will "hop" down or up accordingly.

Requires Macromedia Director 'Shockwave' plug-in.

Presentation on Middleware - November 2004
MA604A - Computer Animation I
At the height of my enthusiasm for using interactive 3D Lingo from within Adobe Director, I made a presentation to my classmates in MA604A, on the idea of making available the code I was using to anyone who wanted to use it. The idea was that if you simply used the bones structure I set up within Maya, you could export your model and the figure would work automatically in Director because of the way I had set up the file and written the code.
Click for presentation - I made the presentation in person, so not all the points appear on the slides.
Requires Adobe Flash plug-in.

Life in the Age of Voyeurism - May 2006
MA663 – Studies in Digital Media and Culture
One day, when walking to the commuter rail at South Station from my office, I noticed something strange. I remained within the field-of-view of at least one camera for nearly the entire 15 minute walk. When presented with the need for a subject for my final project in MA663, I thought demonstrating this fact and capturing imagery that surrounded it was in order. The paper I wrote as a part of the final project is included on the site, as well as podcasts of the paper in five parts, some accompanying clandestine footage of South Station, and musings on Foucault.

Infrared and You - December 2006
VM613A - Foundations of Image and Sound Production
My mission with Infrared and You was to create a 8-12th grade level science project, that could be easily followed, replicated, and developed upon. I set the goal of household materials and a maximum run time of five minutes. The video would have been accompanied by a web page with materials lists, templates for cut-outs, and outline for students, and a list of instructional objectives for parents and teachers, along with tie-ins to other parts of science, particularly biology and physics.

Project X - Inverse Game Design - May 2007
VM626 Computer Animation II
I have been writing code to share with others in the hopes of one day having a 3D game development community based on Adobe (then, Macromedia) Director. Of course, the 3D aspect of this timeless development program never really caught on, but it remains my favorite production environment for advanced interactive work.

Requires Macromedia Director 'Shockwave' plug-in.

Emerson College Web Site 10/2003 - 2/2006
In 2003 I acted as artist and art director for the new Emerson College web site, working under VP of Public Affairs David Rosen. Jason Beals was the Project Manager and did the Cold Fusion programming and back end. Brad Damphousse assisted with the HTML, of which there was an incredible volume. A good amount of the photography was stock, or shot by D. Rosen. Aside from producing the layout, graphic and information design, I also created the panoramas used as banners on pages such as the Library.
